Many ways to teach an alphabet

1.      Writing on sand
2.      Sand paper letter tracing
3.      Finding and keeping movable letters on written letters
4.      Finding the letter in books/picture names
5.      Writing on dotted lines
6.      Shapes: Square, triangle, circle, and rectangle. Tracing and drawing these shapes helps with writing and discriminating different shapes in letters.
7.      Making letters out of geometric shape cut outs
8.      Matching upper and lower case –each alphabet a different color
9.      Stencil, Alphabet inset with 3/ 6 letters for those who have completed three letters
10.  Upper and lower case letters 3 at a time for those who have completed three letters, to find and keep movable letters
11.  Finding and stamping wherever they see the particular letter
12.  Lacing Learning a three letter/simple word by placing movable letters on the word.
13.  Have a sand paper letter behind the sheet and crayon paint to get the impression of the letter
14.  Can make a small book with picture of starting letter words /letter itself cut to shape
15.  Rhymes/recitation with pictures /stories like chika, chika boom boom
16.  Games like letter A, letter A what do you see/ I spy something starting with A and it is a fruit in this room
17.  Sorting by putting into boxes with illustration of animals etc Alphabets are easy to learn when letters are attached with picture
18.  Have the children (or a small group of children) look for an object in the room that begins with the letter sound. When they find something they sit down and place it in the middle of the carpet. When all the children have returned with an object, slowly say the name of each one, emphasizing the beginning letter sounds. Help any students who are having difficulty finding an 
19.  Creative activities like glitter, color sand writing, collage/cut and paste/play dough letters.
20.  Teaching reading with modeling clay
21.  Have each child bring an item for Show and Tell that begins with a certain letter sound. Display the items, and then help the children classify them into groups and count them.
